CONCEPT NOTE

Every year, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people, about 74% of all deaths globally. Reducing NCD-associated mortality rates is crucial to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Qatar has one of the world's best health care systems that offers top-quality medical services for both nationals and residents, with a primary health care (PHC) approach to ensure early detection and timely treatment of NCDs.

Being Qatar's leading humanitarian and community development organization, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is set to organize its 1st Annual Scientific Conference, titled “Updates on NCDs at the Primary Health Care Level". To be held 28-30 September 2023 at the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel, it serves as a contextualized platform to share knowledge and practices on how to better manage chronic diseases, using up-to-date empirical information and research findings.

Not only is this conference an enriching experience but also a valuable opportunity for career progression, as each participant will be eligible for as many as 15 continuing professional development (CPD) points.

MESSAGE OF THE CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN

Dr. Abdul-Salam Al-Qahtani
QRCS Board Member - Medical Affairs Division DG

Over three days, many consultants, experts, and specialists are gathering to present a variety of scientific sessions, which introduce the latest evidence-based practices in the management of chronic diseases. They focus on enhancing the role of individuals and families in promoting prevention, thus supporting health care providers, towards a healthy community that can implement the construction and modernization plans pursued by national health and development strategies.

The diversity of topics discussed by the conference gives the participants, across specializations and levels, a great opportunity to learn, update information, gain experience, and spread awareness of how to treat patients with chronic diseases, especially those with advanced complications at the level of primary health care, ways of prevention, and timely referral to secondary health care.

While seeking to ensure the regularity of this conference every year, we look forward to stronger partnerships among all components of the primary health care sector in Qatar. The ultimate goal is to establish a community where everyone enjoys health and wellbeing. Our health is the basis for building our future and the future of the coming generations.
