Qatar Red Crescent Awareness Raising

Awareness Raising

In light of its main mandate of health education, QRCS launches throughout the year programs and campaigns to spread preventive healthy habits and distribute informative publications and hygiene kits to society members, particularly expatriate workers, such as the National Communicable Disease Prevention Campaign (Weqaya), Ramadan campaign, and Thank You campaign. In addition, it participates in many health events and exhibitions in Qatar.

In the same context, QRCS organizes the annual workshop 'Health Emergencies in Large Populations' (H.E.L.P) course, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the University of Calgary in Qatar. Attended by a select of guest speakers and specialists from different national and international organizations, the workshop covers topics related to planning, food security, public health, epidemic management, healthcare systems, the international humanitarian law, and refugee protection. The course is targeted to different health workers, such as doctors, nurses, nutritionists, environmental engineers, epidemiologists, and public health professionals.

In relation to social and professional education, QRCS has a program called 'Reel Al-Hilal,' which holds educational lectures for young men and women about different social, educational, and psychological issues that are important to the life and future. There is also Springboard, a workshop co-organized by QRCS, the British Council Qatar and Springboard UK. The curriculum consists of workshops and exercises to develop women's professional abilities and boost their self-confidence both in employment careers and in entrepreneurship. In addition, QRCS organizes miscellaneous religious, social, and family education lectures and seminars at social clubs, youth centers, and girl centers.

QRCS offers lectures, training courses, and workshops for society members and institutions to provide them with the knowledge and skills to deal with different emergencies and crises, educate them on community health and the international humanitarian law, attract and qualify volunteers, and enhance the proficiency of medical staff.

First aid and surface water rescue lectures/courses are held at schools, universities, companies, and government and nongovernment organizations to ensure good handling of injuries and emergencies, whether for oneself or for others. This includes first aid basics; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); how to deal with suffocation, bleeding, wounds, fractures, burns, and other injuries; and techniques of moving injured people.

Finally, QRCS is largely interested in promoting the international humanitarian law and human rights, by holding informative lectures on these topics at schools, universities, and military colleges. Every year, a delegation of Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College students regularly visits QRCS to attend a lecture on the creation, goals, and principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; the international humanitarian law and its pillars; and the four Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols. Then, the cadets take a tour of QRCS departments to know about their activities in service of the Qatari society.
