Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) participated as a social partner in the second annual Qatar International Medical Congress (QIMC), held over 18-20 May 2016 at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center, to introduce the medical sector in Qatar to the latest innovations in medical technology and health care, contributing to the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. Over three days, QRCS had a special corner at the event to keep in touch with the public and raise awareness about its humanitarian mission and social activities for the vulnerable, in cooperation with other institutions. During her tour of the venue, H.E. Dr. Hanan Mohammad Al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, visited QRCS's corner to get an overview of its medical, social, and voluntary services for society members. She also watched QRCS's various state-of-the-art ambulance vehicles used to help victims in diverse settings. The visitors were received by QRCS's medical personnel and learnt about basics of first aid for a wounded, bleeding, or fainting person. They were trained in life-saving techniques of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Health education publications were distributed, including on the annual disaster management camp, Ebola, Coronavirus, summer emergency tips, road safety, and the Prepared Child. Other preparedness and safety programs displayed at QRCS's corner were 'Safe School', which trains young children in how to deal with earthquakes, 'I Am a Paramedic', which trains schoolchildren in first aid skills needed to stabilize injuries and save lives, and the 'Disaster Management Camp', which trains volunteers from across the region in a wide range of emergency relief activities. This is QRCS's second appearance in QIMC, as part of its role as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar in its social and development efforts. Medical services are a major field of work for QRCS locally, as it seeks to advance public health in the country, in pursuit of its mission of improving the lives of vulnerable people, by mobilizing the power of humanity and seeking the well-being of individuals in all aspects, notably health and safety.
