QRCS to deploy humanitarian aid ship for Gaza

12/18/2023

Proceeding with its humanitarian support for the people of Gaza, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is planning to deploy a relief aid ship, equal to the capacity of some 30 aircraft, in order to deliver as much Qatari aid as possible to the stormed blockade.

Set to leave Doha soon, the aid ship is part of Qatar's ongoing relief efforts since 7 October, thanks to the #PalestineDuty fundraising campaign. It will carry a wide range of vital relief materials to meet the health, food, and shelter needs of affected people.

The #PalestineDuty campaign was launched on Qatar National Day, Monday 18 December 2023, with three locations designated to receive cash and in-kind donations from the visitors of Katara Cultural Village, Souq Waqif, and Darb Al-Saai.

Also, Qatar TV broadcast a live show from 5:00 pm to 12:00 am to receive donations and pledges from the public, in solidarity with the desperate people of Gaza.

The campaign was co-launched by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), QRCS, and Qatar Charity (QC).

The Qatar TV show was attended by Faisal Mohamed Al-Emadi, Acting Secretary-General of QRCS, Dr. Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, Director of Relief and International Development Division, and Mohamed Rashid Al-Marri, Director of Communication and Public Relations Department.

Over the period 7 October-17 December 2023, QRCS provided 44 planeloads of humanitarian aid via the Qatari airlift in support of Gaza. It allocated $5.5 million from its Disaster Response Fund for phase 1 of emergency relief intervention, with partial funding from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and other donors.

In cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent and Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), a QRCS relief team is receiving relief shipments in Al-Arish, Egypt, and supervising storage, packing, and transportation to the Rafah Border Crossing, to be entered into Gaza.

So far, nearly 350,000 beneficiaries have received QRCS aid at the shelters of internally displaced people (IDPs) across the blockade. QRCS personnel in Gaza have met the needs of many affected people, such as medications, medical consumables, ambulance vehicles, food, hygiene kits, mobile clinics, shelter supplies, winter clothes, blankets, heating oil, firewood, and water tankers.

Those willing to contribute still have the opportunity to donate to the #ForPalestine projects on QRCS website
