As part of its humanitarian efforts to relieve people affected by the armed conflict in Khartoum, the representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society in Sudan has recently launched relief aid distributions in four states.
Comprising 3,000 food parcels and over 1,000 nonfood kits, the project is implemented in cooperation with Sudan's Ministry of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), and the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS).
In the Northern State, 600 food parcels and 350 nonfood kits were distributed at the shelters of internally displaced people (IDPs) and disability care centers in Dongola and Argo. Food parcels contained a variety of food staples, such as sugar, vegetable oil, rice, lentils, and flour, each covering one family's needs for two weeks.
In the same vein, shelter items were distributed in the River Nile State, including mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchenware, etc., for the benefit of more than 2,000 people who had received no aid in Atbara and Al-Matamah localities.
Dr. Salah Daak, head of QRCS office in Sudan, said the newly provided aid focused on the most vulnerable groups, under a multi-sector project implemented by QRCS to help those affected by the conflict in Sudan.
According to him, distributions will continue over the coming days in the remaining target areas, as per the project's action plan.
In the wake of conflict in Sudan, QRCS was one of the first organizations to promptly provide humanitarian aid for affected communities through the Qatari airlift. It has reached out to 12 states, providing emergency medical, sanitation, and food aid for IDPs there.
